The healer of the Goetia, and the entry that most complicates the popular idea of what a 'demon list' contains. Buer is a Great President commanding fifty legions, and his documented offices are entirely benevolent in form: he teaches moral and natural philosophy, logic, and 'the virtues of all herbs and plants'; he 'healeth all distempers in man'; and he gives good familiars.
His form is the tradition's strangest: De Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal fixed him as a lion's head at the hub of a wheel of five goat legs, rolling in cartwheel fashion — an image so arresting that it has outlived most of the text around it.
The archive holds Buer as the reminder that the grimoire tradition is a catalog of powers, not a rogues' gallery: half the seats of the Goetia are listed as teachers, healers, and finders of things lost. What the tradition considered dangerous was not their malice but the operation itself.
