A supernatural dog of the night road, usually encountered as a pair of opposing figures. The white cadejo guards travelers, while the black cadejo stalks, terrifies, or destroys them. Local tellings rearrange the colors and motives, so the archive records the duality rather than forcing one national version onto the whole region.
Descriptions exceed any ordinary dog: hooves or oversized paws, chains that sound without a visible collar, fiery eyes, and a body large enough to occupy the road. Cadejo traditions warn about solitary travel after dark, but also preserve the idea that danger on the road may be shadowed by an equally persistent guardian.
